11/21/19 Review: Buju Banton “Trust” New Flow, New Style by @kevin bruff

Format: Digital Release / Stream Release Review

Date of release: 11/2019 Overall rating: Top work

Buju Banton Trust

No comments are needed to introduce or remind reggae fans of the top artist Buju Banton. He goes by many names: Buju, Buju B. and Mark Myrie. It doesn’t matter how this mastermind is addressed, he uses his voice and style like an old-fashioned skilled carpenter. Every word, pause, phrase and intonation are precisely and wisely chosen.

“Trust” is a must play track for club DJs, stream DJs and radio spots featuring current dancehall and reggae.

Kevin Bruff

This song produced by veteran dancehall producer Dave Kelly has every element that commands top ranking production. The opening effects let the listener know that the song will be contemporary. The sampling repeats: “new style, new flow – mmmm me a tell dem, me nuh trust phone” all syncopated perfectly.

The beat is a solid dancehall pulse stab beat, with perfect chirpy synth sounds going off in the background. The use of low piano notes and bells makes the track dark and hard energy sounding.

“Trust” is serious; it’s a compressed set of statements about the phone, the trust and this and that. I don’t want to spoil the surprise or the moment, check out it for yourself.

The overall rating, I have for this song is Top work. The artwork is creative and smart. Based on the image you get an idea – but the listener should take a moment to enjoy the music.
