An Evening with Stephen Marley Photos and Review

The Cabot, Beverly Ma  11/9/18

An Evening with Stephen Marley is no ordinary evening.  It has definitely been a great year for fans to see Stephen Marley in concert.  He gave a preview of his acoustic tour earlier this year at the 2nd annual Kaya Fest.  Stephen’s acoustic set in particular was one of my favorite moments of the festival. Over the summer, he embarked upon a two and a half week tour with Matisyahu before joining Rebelution and Common Kings for a longer coast-to-coast tour.

An Evening with Stephen Marley PhotosThe fall acoustic tour, An Evening with Stephen Marley,  provided loyal fans with a much more intimate gathering to hear stripped down versions of their favorite songs.  The seventeen city tour kicked off on 10/27/18 and had rave reviews throughout the three week tour.

The next generation was also represented during the tour. Stephen’s daughter Mystic Marley who just released her first single earlier this year appeared on some of the shows including the final show in Washington DC on 11/17/18.

For the special acoustic show setting, Stephen on lead guitar accompanied by several long-time members of his regular touring band  – Nicolas Laraque (Flute & Soprano Saxophone); Ranoy Gordon (Guitar): Riff Raff (Keys); Chris Meredith (Bass); and Squidly Cole (bass drum) thoroughly entertained the sold-out Cabot Theatre in Beverly, MA on Friday, November 9, 2018.  The historic Cabot Theatre by the way is a magnificent place to see this extraordinary type of show.

For approximately 90 minutes (including a four song encore), Stephen led the audience through an excellent showcase of song choices beginning with Bob Marley’s Small Axe and Rainbow Country before delving into his own material from Mind Control.  The remainder of the set alternated between songs from Stephen’s solo albums and other gems from his father’s catalog.    The majority of Stephen’s own material was from Mind Control, his first solo album which won Best Reggae Grammy in 2008. He followed up with Mind Control Acoustic and had a successful acoustic tour for that effort as well. Mind Control Acoustic also went on to win the Best Reggae Album Grammy in 2010.

One Take – Acoustic Jams

An Evening with Stephen Marley photosStephen announced a pleasant surprise during the last leg of the fall acoustic tour.  Billboard premiered his second acoustic album in advance of the 11/12/18 release. The new album’s title, One Take – Acoustic Jams refers to the style in which the album was recorded at his home in Miami.  Whether you attended the tour or not, it’s definitely a must have album to add to your collection.  Read more about the new album HERE.

Next up for Stephen Marley is the annual Welcome to Jamrock Reggae Cruise now in its fifth voyage on the high seas to Jamaica, departing Miami on December 1, 2018.  Given the overwhelming positive response to the acoustic tour, I will not be surprised to hear one more extraordinary encore of An Evening with Stephen Marley!
