This weekend: A Reggae Weekend in New England to remember
It’s been a great summer for Reggae fans based in the New England area. Fans haven’t had to travel too far outside of Boston and Providence to see several large shows such as Damian Marley at the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion in Boston; Beenie Man at Club Lido in Boston; Chronixx at Paradise in Boston and Fete Music in Providence; and most recently Luciano & Morgan Heritage Shows at Fete Music in Providence.
This weekend the summer gets even better. Reggae fans will have a unique experience with three separate quality outdoor festivals happening over the next three days!
Reggae in the Park at the Franklin Park Zoo Boston on Friday, 8/8
Kicking off the weekend on Friday is the inaugural launching of Reggae in the Park at The Franklin Park Zoo featuring Morgan Heritage and Beres Hammond. This show presented by Lion Entertainment and Boston Caribbean United will be hosted by radio DJ Big Bobby G and will also feature Boston based Artists Fyah Binghi, and Livalect with music by Sound International, Sound Vibration and guest DJ, DJ Inferno. Gates open at 6:00. The show starts at 7:30 and ends at 11:00pm. This is a 21+ show. As of 8/8, This show is SOLD OUT.
Newport Reggae Festival in Newport Rhode Island on Saturday, 8/9
The Newport RI Waterfront Concert Series continues its annual Reggae festival at the Newport Yachting Center, featuring a showcase of today’s top Reggae artists. Included on the bill is legendary performer Freddie McGregor to headline the festival along with Reggae favorites John Brown’s Body, Etana, Mighty Mystic, New Kingston, and Soul Rebel Project. Music provided by Jah Soldier and Dj Realm of Omega Sound.
This all day family friendly event is appropriate for all ages. Gates open at 12:00 and music starts at 12:30.
Portland Regge Fest at the Maine State Pier on Sunday, 8/10
A new Reggae festival takes place in Maine this summer. Waterfront Concerts and the City of Portland have teamed up to bring the First Annual Portland Reggae Fest to the Maine State Pier in Portland, Maine on August 10th as part of the Machias Savings Bank Concert Series. This inaugural festival features a showcase of today’s top Reggae artists. Included on the bill is legendary performer Freddie McGregor to headline the festival along with Reggae favorites John Brown’s Body, Etana, Mighty Mystic, New Kingston, Soul Rebel Project, Dany C. & Ice of Caribbean Flava, and Green Lion Crew.
This all day family friendly event is appropriate for all ages (kids 12 and under only $12* day of show only) and will include options to purchase food and vendor goods. Tickets are available onWaterfrontConcerts.com and Ticketmaster outlets and at the door.
