Welcome to the first official week of Summer!  It’s a great weekend to be in NYC!  VP Records and Summer Stage host a free concert on Saturday in Central Park. Then on Sunday, Roy Wilkins Park is the place to be for the 5th Annual staging of Groovin in the Park.  After a weekend filled with great Reggae music, stay in the city on Monday as well  for Ky-mani Marley’s album release party and you’ll see why this is the perfect weekend for Reggae Lovers in NYC.  

Also included in this week’s spotlight are tours you do not want to miss as well as new videos from Third World and Shaggy.

Judy Mowatt joins the line-up for Groovin in the Park!

Groovin in the Park heats up Roy Wilkin’s Park this Sunday! Judy Mowatt is the latest Reggae artist to join this already excellent line-up that incudes Lt. Stitchie, Morgan Heritage, Capleton, Cocoa Tea, Luciano, Michael Bolton and Billy Ocean!  Reggae Reflecton will be there so look out for photos coming soon! 

VIP Records Celebrates 35 years with FREE concert in Central Park

VP Records is celebrating 35 years in the business with a FREE concert that will take place in Central Park on Saturday, June 28th from 2 – 7pm.  The concert featuring VP Reggae and Soca Artists  Maxi Priest, Gyptian, Bunji Garlin and Fay Ann Lyons is part of the Summer Stage Concert Series in Central Park

Tour Spotlight:  Morgan Heritage and Chronixx start new tours

Morgan Heritage Strictly Roots US tour begins June 24th

Morgan Heritage has been on mission.  They have been touring non-stop since their April release of Strictly Roots, their 10th studio album. The next phase of their US tour kicks off on June 24th in Albany, NY and extends through the end of July with dates all over the East Coast including an appearance at Groovin in the Park this weekend in NYC. 

Fans can expect to hear old favorites from their extensive song catalog and new selections from “Strictly Roots”, which features collaborations with Chronixx, Jemere Morgan, Jo Mersa Marley, J Boog, Eric the leader singer of Rebelution, and Bobby Lee of SOJA.  

Morgan Heritage’s “Strictly Roots” album reached no. 1 on the US iTunes Reggae Chart and Billboard Reggae Chart, debuted at # 2 in Switzerland and Holland, #8 in the UK and Germany and #4 in France on the iTunes Reggae Charts.   “Strictly Roots” is still holding strong in the top 10 Billboard Reggae Chart. 

You can also catch Morgan Heritage again on the Catch a Fire Tour that runs later this summer with Damian Marley, Stephen Marley, and Tarrus Riley.

On the heels of the successful US Capture Land month long tour which ended recently on June 20th in Miami, Chronixx and Zinc Fence Redemption are gearing up for their Reparation UK Summer Tour.  The Reparation Tour kicks off on June 26th at the Glastonbury Music Festival and ends on July 19th in Glasgow, Scotland.  Dre Island will join Chronixx on the tour.

New Music Spotlight:  Ky-mani Marley launches Maestro

Ky-mani Marley’s last album was the 2007 release of “Radio”.  Now, the long awaited new album from Kymani Marley is almost here.   Maestro is Kymani’s Marley’s 6th album with an official release date of Tuesday, June 30th. A NYC release party will be held the night before on Monday, June 29th at  (Le) Poisson Rouge.   Special guests include Matisyahu and Gentleman who are both featured on Ky-mani’s new album.   No-Maddz has also been added to the bill, making this an extra special not-to-miss event going on next week in NYC.

New Video Spotlight

Third World – Yim Mas Gan

Third World premieres their new music video ‘YImMasGan’ (Let Him Be Praised) directed by Ras Kassa.  The song, a remake of the Abyssinians 1974 classic  was produced by Damian Marley on the Ghetto Youths International label. 

Shaggy – Bridges ft Chronixx

A live version of ‘Bridges’ from Shaggy’s Out of Many, One Music grammy nominated album was released this week.  The live footage was recorded at the  2014 Uprising Reggae Festival in Slovakia, where they performed ‘Bridges’ live together for the first time ever.
